Last week, one of the members posted about ordering a new B&B system with oval tips, and upon receiving them, saw that tip style had changed from what it used to be. This discussion is detailed in the following thread if you didn't see it: La-Z-Link Anyway, when I found out about this, I became concerned because the week before I had just placed an order for the same system. I emailed B&B, and found out that yes, they had in fact changed tip styles (without telling anyone that I know of or mentioning on their website), and the new tips are supposedly more of a "true oval shape." I've detailed this in the correspondence below, but basically, if you like the old-style tips (like me), you're out of luck, they won't fab them anymore. My exhaust shipped thursday and I should get it tomorrow, whether I like the new tips or not. Just thought some of you may want to know if you're considering ordering the oval tips. Correspondence with B&B: Me: Last week I ordered the B&B 2.5" quad 4.5" OVAL system (FPIM-0035) from Todd Matsubara at TM Engineering for my 95 300ZX twin turbo, assuming the exhaust still has the oval tips that I've seen on other Zs in the past. However, I was reading a post by a member of a 300ZX forum that said he just received the same system I ordered, but he received his and they looked quite different, much more rounded/circular. Is this the case? Because if so, I was sold on the original oval tips, and that's what I'm hoping and expecting to get. Can you please set the record straight for me? B&B: We have gone to the new style elliptical tip, more of a true oval, on all of the systems. Me: OK. Problem I'm having is that I ordered the system thinking it'd look like the other systems I've seen in the past, and now that I've placed the order I'm finding out that it's going to look different. I've never seen these newer-style tips on any of the cars, so I don't really know how I feel about the way it looks. While performance and quality are the main reasons I picked B&B, styling was also a big factor. I liked the style of the older, more squared-ovals, I'm not sure what I think about the larger looking ovals that B&B has switched to. If I decide that I'm not sold on the new style tips at some point, do I have any options? B&B: I understand fully where you are coming from. Unfortunately I do not have any photos of the 300ZX with the new tips as of yet. Also the new tips are not any larger than the original ones just a little different shape. I can say that the feedback we have gotten from many of our customers is that they like the new style tips very much. At this time we do not have any other options for an oval tip. Me: OK, well, just curious, what prompted the switch, and what happened to the old-style tips? Also, if I receive the exhaust system and I decide I'm not happy with it, what are my options at that point? I wouldn't labor over it so much if it was a small investment, but at $1250, it's a pretty big gouge financially and I want to feel like I'm justified in spending that type of money and be 100% pleased with the final product. B&B: There are a couple reasons for the change, one of the largest being manufacturing. Without going into a lot of detail the old style tip required a much more complex manufacturing process as well as a few more steps compared to the new tip. Secondly, we have had many people say that our tip styles were getting old and some new ones were needed. Yes, this is a big financial investment and you should be happy with it. We do not have a return warranty however we would take the system back with a 20% restocking fee as long as the system was new and not damaged.
